Description
The world’s first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant, in Crescentino Italy, is planned to start production by the end of 2012. Our PROESA™ process allows it to deliver superior economics in converting non-food biomass to sugars for the production of bio-ethanol or bio-chemicals.
Beta Renewables is the leader in making non-food cellulosic biomass practical and cost-effective for the production of advanced biofuels and biochemicals.
We are a unique $350 million (€250M) joint venture formed from the Chemtex division of Gruppo Mossi & Ghisolfi and TPG. We bring over 60 years of success in process development and commercializing hundreds of plants worldwide. By creating this new company, we can focus exclusively on the development and broad licensing of our advanced PROESA™ technologies, while affording our partners access to the engineering skills and experience of Chemtex, as desired.
We have invested over $200 million (€140M) in the development of technology and facilities for our PROESA™ process. We have run a one metric ton per day pilot plant in Tortona Italy since June 2009; and plan to start production at the world’s first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant by the end of 2012, designed for 60,000 metric tons per year (20 million gallons).
Our technology has been designed to be uniquely practical and cost-effective. We believe that is best proven by our lead in moving toward commercial scale and the validation from multiple leaders that are licensing our process and partnering with us to develop additional advanced processes.
